The Saturdays digipak analysis

The digipak for The Saturdays 'Wordshaker' features the band members in order to promote them as a group, as well as their music, this is used to almost 'sell' them as a band, which allows consumers know them, and recognise them, this may be beneficial to their success, and general popularity in their genre of music.

The use of the different colour dresses almost acts as a trademark for the band, as before they have been seen to have different colour outfits, this helps distinguish them as a band, from others in a similar field of music. The different colours are also used to catch the eye of the consumer, as these colours are typically reflective in pop music, and is representative of the music The Saturdays have produced for this album, as it would appear to be upbeat and positive.

The fact that each band member is featured in equal measure is also representative of the promotion of the band, as this exemplifies that the band is a collective group effort, rather than having a lead singer, which would be significantly larger than the others, this is used to promote the band as equals, which is what they aim to do in all their albums, and through the use of their songs.

The plain white background is used to draw more attention to the colourful dresses, which appears to be the main feature of the digipak.

The font of the title and the band name is bold and capitalised, this promotes the band further as it is eye-catching and vibrant in colour, which may attract more people to buy the album, the use of yellow also conveys conventions of the pop genre, as pop is seen to be fun, upbeat, and positive, which is similar to the positive connotations of yellow, this is used to give an insight into the type of music that fetures on the album, and the type of music that The Saturdays produce. The title 'Wordshaker' is the title of the sixth song to feature on the album, and suggests a person who tends to manipulate and change words to suit themselves, which is something that most people can relate to, this is used to appeal to a wider audience, which allows the band to recieve more exposure for their music, which may enable them to become more successful as a group

The back of the cover is rather simplistic, as there aren't many gimicks or large props, however it is still eye-catching, as it features the colourful dresses that were worn by the band members on the front cover, this extends the idea that the different colours are used as not only to attract consumers, but also as a genre convention of the pop genre. The use of the dresses also promotes the band, but in a more understated way, not by posting their faces allover the album, this distinguishes The Saturdays from similar girl bands who may do so.

The titles of the songs that feature on the album are listed, this is beneficial to the consumers, so they'll know which songs feature on each album, and make an informed choice about which one to purchase.
