Audience research

The first question in my questionnaire helped me to distinuish the men from the women, this may have affected their answers to the following questions, as they would have different outlooks on different aspects of music and the videos which accompany it. Although I would have preferred an even proportion of males to females, the results show that 70% of the 20 people questioned were in fact, women.

Although all of the age brackets in the question cover my target audience, I wanted to find out what each of the smaller age groups would prefer to see in my music video, this would enable me to take a general reading and decide what would be universally appropriate for each of them, this would be the aim for many music video producers, as they too would want to please as many groups of people possible in order to recieve more views and positive feedback.

The third question was for me to find out the popularity of the genre, by doing this, I could see whether my intended target audience would actually enjoy the song I have chosen, or whether it is irrelevant to their preferences. I didn't want to have this question open, so my wording of the possible answers already made the assumption that the candidate does listen to country music, though it did not specify whether this icluded country variations such as country-pop. The results showed that 45% of those who answered listen to country music every week, telling me there is high demand for this genre of music from this age group.

The question was included to allow me to understand how popular the song I have chosen is to my target audience, and what makes this song more popular from Andy Grammer's other's. The results show that half of the people questioned feel that 'Honey, I'm good' is their favourite of those suggested in the answers. I was hoping that this song was the overall favourite song, as this would mean that the song is the most popular, this would result in more people viewing the video.

This questioned allowed me to see who my target audeince would say Andy Grammer most resembles, this gives me an insigh into which other artists I should research, the most similar would be the one to use as inspiration for my music video. Although the results for this question would've been very helpful for my research, and possibly my planning, the results proved rather inconclusive, as there was a general distribution of answers.

This question would allow me to see how my target audience have interpreted the lyric meaning in the song, by finding this out, I can see what they would like to (and expect) to see in the video. The results show me that 40% of the people questioned think that a happy couple should feature in my music video, telling me that this is the most common answer and that the people have interpreted the lyrics in a positive way.

This question works with the previous one as it gives me an insight into how my target audience interprets the song and the genre of music it comes from. The results show that 35% of people questioned would like to see only 2-5 people in my music video, this relates to the dominant answer from the previous question as the people questioned said they would like to see a happy couple.  This would be ideal for me to produce my music video, as I would need to rely on less people, because of this, there would be fewer issues if one person wasn't able to show up for a filming day.

This question was designed to establish a 'mood' and atmosphere for my music video, and to see what mood my target audience would like (and expect) to feel after viewing my music video. The results show that 89.5% of the people questioned would like to watch a music video that is fun or happy, this relates to the perceptions and interpretations of the target audience I questioned. These results also relate to music in the song, as it is upbeat, suggesting that the song is happy with fun tones and meaning.

This question was designed for me to find out not only what my target audience wants to see in my music video, but also the main feature of the entire video, this enables me to understand the frequency to which each of the elements should be shown in. By doing this, I can see what element my target audience wants to see more often, and therefore wat element I should show more frequently in my video. Based on the results from the previous questions, I would expect to see a majority of people say a narrative should be the main feature of my music video, and the results show that 30% of people questioned think the narrative should be the main feature.

This question allowed me to find out the best way to enable my target audeince to engage with music video. Artists often appear in their own music videos, as this enables their audiences to angage and personally connect with their music, by doing this, they can relate the lyrics and the music to aspects of their own lives, meaning that they successfully engge with the music. My results have shown that people would want to see Andy Grammer in my music video, therefore I will cast someone to play him.
