What is a digipak?
Digipaks are, in essence, a type of packaging for CD singles, or special edition albums.
Digipaks have a book-style gatefold, paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays. They are alternatives to jewel cases, and were made in 1982, but became more popular in early 2000.
Digipaks were one of the first alternatives to jewl cases, and, because there was no other name for the digipak-style packaging, the name became more generic for this type of casing.
They will often include CD's/special editions, a lyric book, information about tour dates/the artist etc.
