Jay-Z digipak analysis

The Jay-Z digipak includes a vast amount of brown and patchy areas which suggests a certain 'urban' feeling to, not only the music, but also the artist. The graffiti-esque features of the digipak suggest that the artist has grown up in these types of areas, and that the artist is presenting their up-bringing as a CD cover, this is evident with the use of brown, highlighting nature and grime, alongside the spraypaint bloches and the stensil lettering. This has been used to portray the notion that their music (like the cover) is raw and natural, as though their music is deep and meaningful, as it relates to Jay-Z's own life.

The connection between the graphics of the CD cover and the artist has been used to allow the consumers to relate to the artist, allowing them to form a connection with, not only the music, but with the artist which may encourage them to buy their albums in the future. The bold statement made with the naturalistic colours and background is extended through the use of a bold font, this entices a potential consumer to buy the album, as well as compliments the message behind the album.

The alliteration used in the title of the album 'Collision course' creates an almost 'crunchy' sound when spoken, this suggests that the album has a raw quality which relates to the music that it features. The title 'Collision course also suggets that Jay-Z'z and Linkin Park's music has 'collided', creating a brand new style and genre that is fresh and original.

The use of blue in the digipak shows contadicts the usual connotations of the colour blue, as it is typically seen as a calm, emotive colour, whereas the cover suggests that the 'collision' is almost an explosion of two artists' music, and therefore, genres. The contadiction of the blue connotations are similar to those between the two artists; Jay-Z and Linkin Park, and therefore work in unison with each other.

The digipak is clearly visually exciting as it includes range of textures and fonts, this creates dramatic and exciting, this suggests that artist is trying to get potential consumers excited for the album release, in order to gain more attention fo the album, and the artist.

The cartoonized graphics are used to present the idea that the album is aimed at young adults, as the drawing-style pictures are
